We look forward to seeing many of you next Saturday at the Seasons for the Annual Dinner.  If you haven't yet registered, please do so on our website, by April 27th

At our annual meeting, we frequently celebrate the youth of Brown County.  This year, we'll honor our annual Janet Kramer Essay contest winners from the Middle and High Schools as well as our Dorothy Stewart Scholarship recipient. We're excited that Emily Lewellen and high school senior, Genevieve Laguna will be our keynote speakers, whom you can read about below.

We hope you will join us for this engaging and timely conversation. You can find more details and register for the dinner at The Seasons Conference Center on May 2nd at 6pm on our website here. We look forward to celebrating this historic milestone together.

Featured Speakers:

Emily Lewellen teaches Dual Credit American History and Dual Credit Government and Politics at Brown County High School. She holds a master’s degree in History from Northern Arizona University and has been teaching for 13 years. Her work in the classroom has earned statewide recognition, including being named Indiana VFW Teacher of the Year (2018) and Gilder Lehrman American History Teacher of the Year for Indiana (2021). Last year, she and her student Genevieve Laguna were selected to participate in the Young People’s Continental Congress in Philadelphia, an immersive program exploring the history and legacy of the First Continental Congress. Later this month, Emily’s new book, The Dictionary of the United States Government, will be available at major bookstores.

Joining her is Genevieve Laguna, a senior at Brown County High School and an accomplished student leader. Genevieve serves as President of the National Honor Society and President of the BCHS History Club. She has participated in National History Day for seven years and was selected to attend the Young People’s Continental Congress in Philadelphia this past summer. Genevieve plans to study History and Government at Harvard University beginning this fall.

Together, Emily and Genevieve will share insights from their experience studying the origins of American democracy and reflect on the importance of civic education as our nation approaches its 250th anniversary.
